The article: Patients navigate an ‘absolutely insane’ maze to afford weight-loss drugs

Why it’s a problem: As the medical profession is extremely ableist, it’s not surprising that a medical doctor is using this ableist language:

“It’s crazy,” she said of the ever-changing insurance landscape for weight-loss medications. “It’s absolutely insane to try to keep up with it all.”

There is a lot more precise, less harmful language that people can use to describe something or someone they disagree with. It’s because these slurs are so loaded historically with negative meaning that publications like The Washington Post rely on them for cheap, attention-grabbing headlines. It’s also vulgar and ableist.
