The article: Mostly empty mental hospital can help more people — without turning into a jail

Description: The Editorial Board notes that people don’t want to live near people with mental illness, so they propose as a solution to build housing on the grounds of a former psychiatric hospital far away from “civilized society.” This is funny (not really), because it doesn’t account for how publications like the Los Angeles Times played a major role in fearmongering about crime, unhoused people, and people living with mental illness, and increasing stigma.
