Sometimes, the looks make me question myself. Not my eligibility, but my right to exist in that space without explanation. Ableism is insidious in that way. It teaches you to see yourself through the eyes of those who doubt you.

Rob Reiner’s brilliant but complicated legacy
Reiner’s brilliant legacy as a filmmaker, actor, and father, evinced by the multitudinous eulogies pouring forth, will not be tarnished by Trump’s insults. Trump, as well, can withstand the insults being hurled at him, and even embraces them at times. Ableism in public discourse, however, does impact others. That’s why I felt the need to call out Reiner’s ableism even though I mourn his passing with the rest of the country.
