Oakland Theater Project explores vulnerability, disability in evocative ‘Cost of Living’

Martyna Majok’s Pulitzer prize-winning play “Cost of Living” made waves with its authentic, rich exploration of disability, fraught with tension and messy interpersonal relationships.


“Cost of Living” follows two duos living in New Jersey: Ani (Christine Bruno) and Eddie (Daniel Duque-Estrada) as well as Jess (Carla Gallardo) and John (Matty Placencia). Ani and Eddie had been married for years before the two finally filed for divorce and split ways. Yet, after an accident leaves Ani paraplegic, Eddie is hesitant to leave their rich history behind as he tries to carve out room for himself in Ani’s life once again. Read more…
