The Mental Health Act is supposed to be a protective mechanism for people, yet, in its current state, without specific provision for children, it stripped Ruth of her rights and of all our protection. The decisions about every aspect of Ruth’s care were taken over by the clinical team looking after her. As her parents, we were suddenly powerless.
